/ Pimples on the scalp? How to get rid of them!
Pimples on the scalp are not noticed as quickly but are just as uncomfortable as in other places. We show the best tips and ways to get rid of them.
Pimples can appear anywhere on our skin - including the scalp. Since the scalp is usually covered with a lot of hair, we just don't notice it as often.
Causes of pimples on the scalp
The causes can be varied, including:
- Allergy: do you have a new detergent or shampoo? Pimples on the scalp can be an allergic reaction. To be on the safe side, you can take a test at the specialist or test it yourself beforehand by omitting potential allergy-causing agents.
- Hormones: Hormonal changes such as stress, puberty, or menstruation can also lead to unpleasant pustules.
- Wrong care: sweat, remnants of hair care products, or dead skin cells can cause the pores to clog and result in pimples.
- Irritation/damage: Permanent friction caused by hats etc. coats the scalp. If the scalp is even damaged, for example, by shaving, the hair follicles can become inflamed, and small pustules can develop.
Pimples on the scalp: you can do that
In general: Do not squeeze the pimples! It can do more damage than it helps you. We present 5 home remedies and measures that really help.
- Use the right shampoos: Use a mild shampoo with a low pH. Antibacterial shampoos clean the scalp and help with bacteria from the dander.
- Regular hair care: Wash your hair regularly (about every two days) and always after exercise to tackle dirt and sweat.
- Conditioners: Chamomile has an anti-inflammatory effect and can relieve itching. Prepare a rinse of chamomile flowers and hot water; strain the herbs after about ten minutes. If the brew is lukewarm, you pour it over your head. The conditioner remains in the hair.
- Tea tree oil: The oil is known to be disinfectant and drying out. So be careful with the dosage, maybe you should dilute it with water before dabbing it on the pimple.
- Protect the scalp: Avoid anything that could strain your scalp if possible. Leave out the hairdryer, curling iron, straightening iron, hair coloring, and Co. and use alternatives. You can also let hair dry in the air; instead of curling irons, you can also make beach waves overnight - these are currently very popular anyway.
Here you can find even more tips against itchy scalp and dry scalp. And here is everything you need to know about acne on your back.
None of the tips helped? The pimples keep coming back? If home remedies and proper care don't work, you should see your doctor. Diseases can also be behind the pimples.
